This kit is my effort to make it easy for a roller to affordably get all the harder to get tools in one place to get started rolling. The only thing really missing is the tobacco and a cutting surface. These are all items I personally use for rolling.
Each kit comes with a 2 or 4 slot mold of your choice, a ready-to-use hybrid chaveta, a stainless steel cap cutter, a measurement tool for length and ring gauge, and enough glue to get you started. Don't hesitate to ask for customization of this kit to meet your rolling needs.
Choose a mold size below. The chaveta, cap cutter, ring gauge, and glue are included with every kit.
These are the same style of custom molds I offer on the website, but are specifically made for the starter kit. I currently have 46, 48, 50, 52 ring gauge kits priced for both 2 slot and 4 slot molds. The cavities of the molds are all 6" in length. Customization can be quoted on request.
Originally, I had made my own chaveta from an old table saw blade. It was based on the shape and dimensions of the one used by Bliss Cigar Co. This beloved tool was very comfortable for me and was on my table every rolling session. I was able to get a chaveta made by Mike Fish. Mike's design is also based on the exact dimensions Bliss uses, but the steel thickness he chose and in particular his hybrid design are what caused me to retire my old blade. The hybrid design allows me to do fine detail work with one end and gentle curves with the other. I always prefer my chavetas naked, but the current kit blades have holes near the handle side for those interested in adding their own scales.
The cap cutter is made from 304 stainless steel, and is sized to work with the molds offered within the kits. With a little practice it can also cut caps outside that range. It is sized for the kits but not limited to it.
Having a ruler on the table when bunching or trimming is handy. I also like to occasionally check ring gauge as I am wrapping.
I use Bermocoll 320 and typically mix it in small batches of 1/4 tsp of glue powder to 1.5 tsp of distilled water. I have included enough glue for about 8-10 batches at this size, which should do about 75-100 cigars. You will need a small jar to mix and store the glue in.
